Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers dropped the third of a six-game series against the Louisville Bats 4-1, Thursday at Werner Park as the team's seven-game winning streak came to an end.
The Chasers struck for the game's first run in bottom of the second inning as Devin Mann, Nick Pratto and Rodolfo Durán, opened the frame with three straight singles to load the bases. Kevin Padlo plated Mann for the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly as Omaha took the early lead 1-0. Mann's single extended his hit streak to a team-best eight games, his first of three hits in his 15th multi-hit game of the year, also his 22nd consecutive game on base.
Louisville answered Omaha's run and tied the game up in the top of the third inning as back-to-back two-out doubles evened the score at 1-1. A pair of singles opened the third inning for the Bats, then a pair of walks with two outs proceeded to load the bases and score a run for a 2-1 Louisville lead.
The two runs were all Omaha starting pitcher Andrew Hoffmann allowed, as the right-hander struck out four over 5.0 innings but wound up taking his second loss of the year. Left-hander Anthony Veneziano replaced Hoffmann in the top of the sixth inning and produced Omaha's longest relief outing of the year, with 3.2 innings and 68 pitches, and he came an out away from finishing the ninth.
Up by one for much of the game, the Bats struck again in the top of the eighth inning off Veneziano and rallied with two outs, as a walk, double and single a pair of insurance runs and Louisville extended its lead to 4-1, which ended as the final score.
Omaha's offense went quiet after scoring in the second, as the Chasers mustered just three hits over the final seven innings while drawing just one walk in the process.
Veneziano allowed a two-out single in the top of the ninth to end his outing but left-hander Evan Sisk stranded the inherited the runner with a strikeout, but Omaha went quietly in the bottom of the ninth for the team's first loss in over a week.
The Storm Chasers continue this week's series against the Louisville Bats Friday, June 21 as first pitch will be 7:05 p.m. CT and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Bowlan is slated to start for Omaha.
