Norfolk Tides News Release
The Norfolk Tides were in total control over the Charlotte Knights in their, 4-0, win. They held the Knights scoreless and only allowed three hits in the whole game. The Tides are now 2-2 in September.
The first home run of the year for Pat Valaika came in the second inning. He hit a two-run home run to bring home Tyler Nevin who got on previously with a walk. The first home run for the Tides in the month of September, out the Tides up 2-0 over the Knights.
In the fifth inning, the Tides had four hits scoring two runs. Zach Jarrett, Yusniel Diaz, and Mason McCoy each hit a single that loaded the bases. Once the bases were loaded, Richie Martin hit a soft ground ball that allowed him to reach on a fielder's choice by the Knights. Adley Rutschman drove in the first run of the inning, with a sac fly in shallow center field, scoring Diaz. Robert Neustrom then hit a single to score McCoy. The Tides went up 4-0 and won the game in a shutout.
The Tides score two more runs in the bottom of the 5th! With the bases loaded, Adley Rutschman forced a 10-pitch at bat resulting in a sacrifice fly. Robert Neustrom followed with this RBI single to put the Tides up, 4-0.
The Tides continued to pitch great in this series against the Knights. Starter Dean Kremer pitched 5.0 innings while striking out five and allowing only two hits. This is the first game all year that Kremer has allowed so few hits while pitching as much as 5.0 innings. He has six games all year where he has allowed for two hits or less.
The Tides played very well in all aspects of the game. They shutout the Knights in their, 4-0, win. The last time the Tides shutout an opponent was on a 4-0 win on August 10 against the Memphis Redbirds, after they held the Redbirds to one hit.
Adley Rustchman and Pat Valaika each had multi-hits in the Tides shutout win over the Knights. The Knights were held to .100 (3-for-30) hitting in the game with ten being strikeouts by the Tides.
The next game for the Tides will be on Saturday, September 4, where they will be facing the Knights again in game five of the seven game series at Harbor Park. Cody Sedock has been named the starting pitcher for Saturday's game. It will be Sedlock's second start as he looks to grab his second win with the Tides since coming up from Double-A Bowie.
