Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Bulls shortstop Tristan Gray and designated hitter Rene Pinto each homered and starting pitcher Shane Baz struck out seven in five innings of work, while four Jumbo Shrimp relievers combined for six scoreless frames in Jacksonville's 4-3 twelve-inning victory over Durham on Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Gray left the yard in the second to put Durham up 1-0, though the Jumbo Shrimp would answer back with a tally of their own in the last of the frame. Bulls 1B Mike Brosseau would then line an RBI single to right in the third to make it 2-1 before Jacksonville evened the contest again in the fifth. Pinto's sixth-inning solo shot gave Durham a 3-2 advantage, though that was also short-lived as the Jumbo Shrimp plated a score in the last of the sixth to force extra innings. Neither side scored until the 12th, when Jacksonville 3B Justin Twine scored on a wild pitch.
Baz (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) fanned seven over his five frames, though he did not factor in the final decisions. Jumbo Shrimp reliever Tommy Eveld (2.0 IP, 3 K) earned the win, while Durham southpaw Ryan Sherriff (0.0 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are scheduled to face off again on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. RHP Tommy Romero is anticipated to get the nod for Durham, while LHP Braxton Garrett is slated to toe the rubber for Jacksonville.
The Bulls return home on Tuesday, September 7 for their penultimate homestand of the year, facing off against the Norfolk Tides for seven tilts. Start time for that series' opener is set for 6:35pm. Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining Bulls home games are available and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com.
