Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians today named infielder Nick Gonzales as their April Player of the Month after he led the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, doubles, extra-base hits, total bases and runs in 20 games.
Gonzales, 24, put together a torrid month of April, ranking among International League leaders in batting average (2nd, .375), hits (T-2nd, 30), doubles (T-2nd, 9), on-base percentage (9th, .438) and OPS (9th, 1.026). His April batting average is the seventh-best monthly mark of an Indians batter with at least 75 at-bats since 2005.
The middle-infielder's month was highlighted by a career-high 21-game on-base streak from March 29-April 24 and 14-game hitting streak beginning on April 6. During his 21-gamer, Gonzales hit .402 (35-for-87) with 11 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 13 RBI, a .453 on-base percentage and 1.074 OPS. The stretch also included a career-high tying four-hit performance on April 16 vs. St. Paul.
Gonzales has appeared in 25 total games with Indianapolis this season, hitting .373 (38-for-102) with a league-leading 28 runs and 12 doubles. He also ranks among full-season International League leaders in batting average (2nd, trailing teammate Jake Lamb), hits (2nd), extra-base hits (T-5th, 16), total bases (T-7th, 61) and OPS (8th, 1.028).
The New Mexico State (Las Cruces) University product was selected by Pittsburgh in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft. He had his contract selected on June 23, 2023, and made his major league debut with the Pirates that night at Miami.
