Memphis Pitching Silents Knights to Take Third Straight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game road trip with a 5-0 win at the Charlotte Knights (Triple-A, Chicago White Sox) on Friday night in Charlotte.

Left-handed pitcher Zack Thompson made his first start of the season with Memphis in the win. Thompson tossed 4.0 shutout innings, allowed two hits, walked none and struck out four. In 7.2 innings with Memphis this season, the lefty has not allowed a run. Andre Pallante (1-0) followed with 4.0 shutout innings of his own.

The Redbirds offense got rolling early on Friday night. In the top of the first, shortstop Thomas Saggese blasted his second home run of the series to put Memphis up 1-0. Saggese, who went 1-for-3 with two HBPs, scored three runs on the night.

Memphis snagged three runs of insurance in the top of the seventh. Second baseman Cesar Prieto smacked his second double of the night to score MLB Rehabbing center fielder Dylan Carlson. One batter later, first baseman Luken Baker doubled home two runs to make the score 5-0. Carlson finished his fourth MLB Rehab Appearance of the week 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout, all against right-handed pitching.

The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park to begin a 13-game homestand against the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday, May 7 with first pitch for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
