November 24, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - One night after falling in Johnstown, the Wheeling Nailers beat the Johnstown Chiefs 4-2 Saturday night in front of 2,795 fans at WesBanco Arena. The Nailers are now unbeaten in regulation at home in their past seven games and have a 6-1-1 record in front of the home fans.
For the fourth consecutive game the Nailers scored the first goal, this time it was Curtiss Patrick's first goal of the season at 5:59 of the first period. Kevin Croxton stole the puck away in the corner of the Chief's zone and quickly fed Patrick who was alone in front. Patrick made a move to the backhand and slid it out of the reach of Andrew Penner.
Wheeling entered the game with the best power-play percentage at home in the league (32.5 percent) and scored twice on the man advantage on Saturday. At 13:03 of the second period, Adam Henrich scored for the tenth time in eleven games by picking up his sixth power-pay goal. Jeremy Swanson's shot from the point was stopped by Penner by Henrich was there for the rebound.
Leading 2-0 entering the third period, the Nailers expanded their lead at 9:12. Henrich set up David Laliberte on a one-timer for his fifth goal of the season. Patrick was also given an assist on the power-play goal.
Johnstown was able to get on the board with Jean Desrochers goal at 11:42 ending David Brown's bid at his first professional shutout.
Within 28 seconds, the Nailers regained their three-goal lead. Henrich and Laliberte set up Aaron Clarke for his first professional goal. Laliberte's quick pass left Clarke alone in front of the goal with plenty of time to deposit the puck in the empty net.
Alexandre Imbeault scored to make it 4-2 with 5:31 remaining in regulation.
Brown stopped 31 of 33 shots and earned the third star of the game.
The Nailers return to action on Sunday afternoon in Trenton, NJ at 4p.m. Their next home game is on Sunday, December 2 at 6:05p.m. Fans are invited to bring their own skates and gloves to skate with the team following their game with the Reading Royals.
