FRESNO, Calif. - In a classic goaltenders' duel, Fresno's Kris Mayotte got the nod Saturday, finishing with 28 saves as Fresno nipped Alaska 2-1 in front of 4,733 at the Save-Mart Center on the campus of Fresno State University.

The Falcons dominated much of the first period, out-shooting the Aces 13-7 and taking a 1-0 lead at the 13:27 mark when Mike Ramsay's drive off the rush squeezed through Kris Tebbs, making his first start in net for Alaska. Fresno failed to convert any of its three power play opportunities in the opening 20 minutes.

The Falcons pushed their advantage to 2-0 when a shot by Igor Gongalsky glanced off the glove hand of Tebbs and trickled into the back of the net at 17:09. But 38 seconds later, Alaska finally broke through against Mayotte when F.P. Guenette punctuated a flurry in front with his third goal of the year on a rebound to bring the Aces within 2-1 at the break.

The Falcons had blown two third period leads last week in Anchorage, but limited Alaska to just seven shots over the final 20 minutes while staying out of the penalty box. Josh Soares, who came in with goals in three straight games and 16 points over his last nine, managed just one shot on goal. The Aces (10-5-1) have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season and for the second straight night, failed to take over the West Division lead, remaining one point behind Victoria, a 3-0 loser in Idaho.

Alaska will hop on an early morning plane out of Fresno and head to Florida for three games against the Everblades, with the opener scheduled for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ADT. Earlier this season, the Aces took two of three from Florida in Anchorage. The club has scheduled practices at Germain Arena both Monday and Tuesday. All regular season games are broadcast live on Alaska's flagship station, AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
