Salmon Kings Win Streak Snapped

November 24, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

The Salmon Kings came into tonight's contest looking to win for the second straight night at Qwest Arena and for the seventh straight game in a row, but Idaho would look to snap the Kings' streaks.

Victoria was able to get on the board first when Marc-Andre Bernier rifled a shot over the right shoulder of Idaho goaltender Kellen Briggs for the 1-0 lead. The Steelheads would respond when Marty Flichel was able to collect the rebound of his initial shot and snap the shot past Victoria goaltender Billy Thompson. Off the ensuing faceoff Alexander Naurov carried the puck into Kings' territory and threw a shot on the blocker hand side of Thompson's net. The Kings' netminder made the stop, but Aaron Gagnon was able to slip a backhanded trickler past Thompson for the lead a mere 13 seconds later. Idaho would go to the room up 2-1 after the first period.

The second period began with Idaho continuing to put presser on Victoria and they were rewarded when Richard Clune snapped a shot past Thompson for the 3-1 lead. Idaho would keep coming and would score two power play goals before the period would end. Greg Rallo and Mark Bomersback would score those goals for the Steelheads. After 40 minutes Idaho would lead 5-1.

There was no scoring in the third period as Idaho skated to a 5-1 victory on home ice. Victoria went 0/4=0% and Idaho was 2/8=25.0% on the power play. Idaho outshot Victoria 36-14.

The Salmon Kings will play the rubber match tomorrow night against the Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads. They return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on November 28th when the Phoenix Roadrunners come to town for three games in three nights. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
