Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Wichita, KS - The offensive struggles for the Missouri Mavericks (5-7-0-0) continued on Saturday night in a 6-0 loss to the Wichita Thunder (5-5-1-2) at the INTRUST Bank Arena. The shutout is the first against the Mavs since February 9, 2014, also in Wichita.
The loss is the third straight for the Mavs and the fourth in their last five games. During those four losses, Missouri has scored just three goals. Wichita now leads the season series against the Mavs three games to one.
Mike Clemente took the loss falling to 2-5 on the season. He was pulled after two periods finishing with 17 saves on 21 shots. John Griggs played the last period in net for the Mavs stopping eight of 10 shots.
Wichita's Tyler Bunz made 27 saves earning his first shutout of the season and second of his pro career. His record improves to 2-2.
Wichita's offense was balanced with strikes in all three periods. Danick Gauthier scored in the first period, while Michael Trebish, Kirill Tulupov and Gauthier lit the lamp in the second period. In the third period, Kenton Miller scored even strength and Ian Lowe scored while his team was a man down.
Special teams were in favor of the Thunder who went 2 for 6 with the man advantage (both of Gauthier's goals came on the power play) and they also converted once while shorthanded (Lowe). Missouri finished the game 0 for 5 and have now failed to convert on 17 straight power plays.
The Mavs conclude their three-game weekend with a home game on Sunday against the Quad City Mallards. Face-off is set for 4:05 PM (CST) at the Independence Events Center.
