Brampton Beast News Release

ALLEN, Texas - After a 9-2 loss yesterday at the hands of the Allen Americans, the Beast pulled together to fix some defensive errors in their own zone, but it wasn't enough as they fell to their southern rivals 4-1 on a rainy Saturday night in Texas.

Jack Combs opened the scoring for the Americans at 6:39 of the first period, firing his 8th goal of the season past Beast goalie Grant Rollheiser to extend his scoring streak to 11 games, which includes every contest Allen has played so far this season. Red-hot winger Chad Costello pushed his own point streak to five games with an assist on the play, his first of two on the night.

The Beast had some great chances to tie the game later on in the period with the man advantage, but although Jason Pitton and Mathew Maione both came close on back-to-back opportunities they were unable to solve neminder Riley Gill. The Americans goalie came into the game ranked third in the ECHL with a 2.10 goals-against average and second with a 0.933 save percentage, and would save 27 of 28 shots in the win.

Brampton's difficulties finding the back of the net continued into the second period, where for the second straight game the Beast would be shut out in the middle frame, which had statistically been their best coming into the weekend series with 13 goals for and 14 goals against. At the other end of the ice, the Americans added to their lead with goals from Austin Smith and Gary Steffes to head into the second intermission up 3-0.

As always, the Beast didn't go down without a fight, entering the third period with a vengeance and firing the first four of five shots on goal. The intense pressure was rewarded five minutes in when Jason Dale cut the Allen lead to two with his first of the season and 150th pro hockey point. Cal Wild and Josh McQuade would be credited with the assists on Brampton's lone goal of the night.

The early-period marker would be as close as the Beast came despite limiting their opponents to less than 40 shots for the second straight game. Combs would score an empty-netter, his second goal of the night, with less than a minute remaining to end any hope of a comeback.

With the loss, the Beast fall to 3-7-1 on the season and 0-3-1 on the road. They head to Rapid City, South Dakota for a three-game series with the Rush beginning on Wednesday before coming home to face the Wichita Thunder.
