HEAD TO HEAD - This is the fifth of 15 meetings between the Thunder and the Oilers and the 255th all-time. Wichita is 1-0-1-2 this season vs. Tulsa. All-time, Wichita is 130-103-21 and 57-58-11 on the road against the Oilers.
OUTBURST - Wichita exploded last night for its largest offensive output of the season, scoring six last night against Missouri. The Thunder recorded two power play goals and one shorthanded, which is the second shortie of the season. The previous season-high was five goals against Tulsa during Opening Weekend. Wichita is averaging 2.92 goals for per game and allowing 3.08 goals against per game so far this season.
CHANCES - Wichita started out the season trying to find scoring chances. The Thunder averaged 23.33 shots per game in the first three contests. Over the last seven games, Wichita has eclipsed 30 or more shots and is averaging 36.14 shots per game over that stretch. The Thunder unloaded 26 shots in the second period and 49 shots against the Oilers on Tuesday, which are new season highs.
SPECIAL TEAMS - Over the last six games, the Thunder power play has improved and is finding quality scoring chances. Wichita has scored a power play goal in six of the last seven contests, going 9-for-31 over that span and good for a 29% rate. Overall, Wichita is 8th in the league at 20.3% on the power play and 83.7% on the penalty kill.
SUNDAY MATINEE - Through four meetings this season, the Thunder and the Oilers have not played on a Friday or Saturday against each other. In fact, the two teams play the first eight meetings against one another on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or a Sunday. The Thunder play Tulsa five times on a Sunday and four times on a Wednesday night this year. The next two meetings between the two teams are on a Sunday, including today's match-up at the BOK Center.
