Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - Jon Booras scored a shorthanded goal and fired home a power play game-winner to lift the Tulsa Oilers to a 3-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder in front of 4,096 at the BOK Center on Sunday evening. The Oilers are 4-0-0 on home ice against the Thunder this season and have captured points in four consecutive contests, their longest point streak of the season.

Wichita jumped out to an early first period lead on the first goal of the season from captain Theo Peckham. The Thunder defenseman intercepted a clearing attempt by Tulsa goalie Kevin Carr and hammered a shot from the blue line that found its way into the net with just 4:16 off the clock. The Thunder lead held until the final minute of the frame when Tulsa winger Kyle O'Kane chipped a shot over the shoulder of Tyler Bunz to level the score at 1-1.

A sensational individual effort by Kurtis Bartliff put the Thunder back in front at 10:39 of the second period. Despite the attempts of two Oilers to cut Bartliff off and take the puck away, the Wichita winger maintained his balance long enough to swat the puck past Carr for his second strike of the season. Again, the Oilers answer came late in the period. With Dave Pszenyczny in the penalty box for boarding, Carr made a blocker save that bounced to Drew Fisher who started a shorthanded rush for the Oilers. Fisher pushed the puck ahead to a streaking Booras who used a nifty forehand-to-backhand deke to beat Bunz at the 18:25 mark. Booras knotted the contest at 2-2 and scored Tulsa's fourth shorthanded goal of the season.

After an Erick Lizon high-sticking minor gave the Oilers their fourth power play of the night, it didn't take long for Booras to find the range again. Adam Pleskach peeled the puck off the left-wing boards and fed Booras at the edge of the face-off circle. The veteran center whipped the puck past the glove of Bunz at 11:46 to give Tulsa its first lead of the night. Booras, who has scored four goals in his last two games, registered his third multi-goal effort of the season and leads all Oilers with eight multi-point outings. Carr made nine of his 28 saves in the third period to preserve the Oilers' victory and posted his eighth win of the season.

The Oilers were outshot 30-25 on the evening and outgunned for the eighth consecutive contest. Tulsa finished 1-for-4 on the power play and successfully eliminated all four of Wichita's power play chances.

Tulsa's home stand continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Allen Americans.
