
Mills takes his fifth loss, despite his 5th straight quality start

Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Portland, ME) - For the second straight night, the Rock Cats (61-76) hold the Sea Dogs to three hits and shutout Portland (72-64) 2-0. The Rock Cats took 3 of 5 from Portland but the 'Dogs won the season series, taking 15 of 25 games.
RHP Jeff Manship (3-6) hurled six scoreless innings on three hits, two walks and seven strikeouts to earn the win. Zach Ward (1.2 IP, Hold #9) and Ben Julianel (1.1 IP, Save #25) combined for three perfect innings of relief to seal the win for the visitors.
The Sea Dogs scoreless streak was extended to 20 straight innings after being shutout for the 9th time this season. Portland's last run came on Zach Daeges' RBI triple in game two of a doubleheader on August 26.
Adam Mills (0-5) suffered the tough luck loss for Portland, allowing two runs (one earned) over 6.2 IP. Mills fanned seven batters, including the side in the sixth inning.
New Britain scored both runs in the seventh inning off Mills. Toby Gardenhire led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. After Brandon Roberts flied out, Matt Tolbert lined a run-scoring single for the game's first run. On the play, Tolbert advanced to third base on a 2-base throwing error by Argenis Diaz. Brian Dinkelman greeted Richie Lentz with an RBI double up the first-base line.
The Sea Dogs received singles from Diaz and Lars Anderson. Tony Granadillo went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Portland had one baserunner after the fifth inning.
Portland will open up their final regular season series on Friday night when the New Hampshire Fisher Cats invade Hadlock Field. LHP Kris Johnson will make his 27th start of the season for Portland and LHP Jo Matumoto will start for New Hampshire. Notes...New Britain's pitchers retired 54 of 64 batters in the final two games of the series...Miguel Asencio pitched a perfect ninth for Portland...The Sea Dogs are 55-56 since May 1.
