
Thunder pound Bowie

Trenton Thunder News Release
(Bowie, MD)- Trenton had a six-run third inning and finally knocked off Bowie 9-3 on Thursday night from Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD. Trenton finished the season-series 1-5 against the Baysox.
Trenton broke open a scoreless game in the third inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Shortstop Ramiro Pena connected on an RBI single off of Bowie Starting pitcher Jason Berken (12-4) to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Left fielder Kevin Russo followed with an RBI infield single to plate another run and make it 2-0. Designated hitter Edwar Gonzalez followed by reaching on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by Bowie First baseman Jeff Nettles. The error by Nettles allowed two more runs to score. Center fielder Colin Curtis capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-run single. Trenton tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Center fielder Colin Curtis had an RBI groundout in the fifth, Second baseman Reegie Corona connected on an RBI double in the sixth, and First baseman Chris Malec delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning.
Bowie First baseman Jeff Nettles hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to account for Bowie's three runs. The home run came off of Thunder reliever Eric Wordekemper. Thunder Starting pitcher Jeff Marquez (1-1) tossed 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. He scattered two hits and one run. He struck out five and walked three. Marquez and Manager Tony Franklin were ejected after Bowie Right fielder Nolan Reimold was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning. Bowie Reliever Felix Romero had been ejected earlier in the game after throwing a pitch over the head of Ramiro Pena. Berken gave up seven hits and six runs (five earned) in four innings to take the loss. Corona and Pena each had three hits in the win for Trenton. Curtis also had three RBI.
Trenton wraps up the regular season at Waterfront Park with a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The first game of the series is on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Trenton's starting pitcher for Friday's game is TBA. RHP Garrett Broshuis (13-9, 3.83) will start for Connecticut.
