Curve split with Aeros
August 28, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, OH - The Altoona Curve split a double header on Thursday night with the Akron Aeros (Cleveland Indians) at Canal Park, dropping the first contest, 3-0, and prevailing in the nightcap, 1-0.
It was the Curve's final road games of the 2008 season.
In the first game, Kyle Bloom (5-8) was the tough luck loser allowing three runs over six innings. The lefty, in his bid to win a fourth straight decision scattered five hits.
Bloom was out dueled by Ryan Edell (7-8) who held the Curve (62-76) in check, permitting just three hits over 5 2/3 innings and striking out seven.
Offensively Akron (77-61) was paced by a Wyatt Toregas solo home run in the fifth inning, and a back-breaking two-run triple by Matt Whitney in the bottom of the sixth.
The win for the Aeros assured them a 2008 playoff berth.
In the nightcap, Jose Tabata's RBI double is all the Curve pitching staff would need. Tabata's decisive hit came in the top of the third off reliever Neil Wagner (0-2).
Christian Castorri started the game for Altoona and tossed three scoreless innings, before Juan Mateo (7-1) relieved Castorri and did the same to earn the win.
Ronald Belisario recorded his ninth save of the year with a scoreless frame.
The Curve prepare to open their final homestand of the year on Friday at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Reading Phillies (Phillies) in the first of four games. Over the homestand, fans will enjoy a pair of fireworks shows, a photo ball giveaway, an appearance by Myron Noodleman, and a special Labor Day matinee game.
Great seats for the quartet of games still remain and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, by logging on to AltoonaCurve.com, or in person at the Blair County Ballpark ticket windows.
