New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- For the fifth straight year, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, have set a single-season, franchise record by welcoming 373,227 fans into Merchantsauto.com Stadium during the 2008 regular season. Tonight's standing-room-only crowd of 6,689, the 15th standing-room-only crowd of the season, put the Fisher Cats over the top, breaking the 2007 record of 371,710 fans. The record-setting number does not even take into account the 8,762 fans who attended the Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16, the largest crowd in Merchantsauto.com Stadium history.
"It has been an exciting and memorable season here in New Hampshire, and we want to thank our great fans for helping cap this All-Star campaign by setting a franchise attendance record," said Fisher Cats Owner Art Solomon. "We are proud of our front office staff for helping achieve this milestone after putting together such a tremendous Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star game last month, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in 2009."
"Our fans once again proved they are the best in baseball for showing their unwavering support during this unforgettable season," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "It's been a whirlwind experience for our staff, from the opening of the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill and the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame in April, to the Bank of America Baseball Block Party and Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game in July, to a record-setting finale tonight. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who made this possible." The Fisher Cats' total attendance of 373,227 ranks fourth overall in the Eastern League for the second straight season, and the average attendance of 5,332 ranks fourth in the EL as well, a franchise best.
