Harrisburg Senators News Release
Erie, PA - The Harrisburg Senators got past an old nemesis, but were hurt by another as the Erie SeaWolves beat the Senators, 11-9, Thursday at Jerry Uht Park. Ryan Roberson homered in a 5-for-5 night and drove in five runs to lead the way for Erie.
Harrisburg finally got to Erie LHP Luke French, who had dominated the Senators in five starts prior to Thursday night. The Senators scored six runs in five innings against French, but he still grabbed the win thanks to a huge 2nd inning.
The Senators took the early lead once again, plating three runs in the top of the 2nd inning against French. RBI doubles by Edgardo Baez, Javi Herrera and Marco Yepez gave the Senators a 3-0 advantage.
The SeaWolves came right back with seven runs in the bottom of the 2nd against LHP Justin Jones, who struck out the side in order in the 1st inning. Seven Erie hitters came to the plate without recording an out, including a two-run single by Shawn Roof which made it 4-3 and a two-run double by James Skelton to make it 6-3. Ryan Roberson's RBI single gave Erie a 7-3 advantage.
The Senators cut into the deficit with a solo home run in the top of the 4th by Baez, his second homer of the season at Double-A. The SeaWolves made it 8-4 on Roberson's RBI single in the bottom of the 4th.
Harrisburg again rallied in the top of the 5th when Ian Desmond drilled a solo homer to right-center to cut it to 8-5. Devin Ivany bounced into a run-scoring fielder's choice to make it an 8-6 game.
The SeaWolves tacked on another run in the 6th inning when Roberson hit another RBI single to push it to a 9-6 tally.
The Senators made it a one-run game in the top of the 7th inning as Baez hit a broken-bat RBI single to center and Javi Herrera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 9-8.
Erie gave itself a cushion in the top of the 9th. After a two-out walk, Roberson crushed a two-run homer to deep left-center to put the SeaWolves ahead, 11-8.
In the 9th, the Senators used two walks and a single to load the bases with nobody out against Erie LHP Josh Kite. A double-play ball scored a run to cut it to 11-9, but that was all the Senators would get; a flyout ended the game.
Jones didn't make it out of the second inning and took the loss to fall to 2-5. French, despite struggling, still notched the win, his fourth against the Senators to move to 9-11.
The Senators dropped to 71-67. Erie improved to 67-71.
The Senators return to Commerce Bank Park for the final series of the season, a four-game set against the Bowie Baysox (Double-A Baltimore Orioles). Game time Friday is set for 6:35 PM. Harrisburg RHP Jordan Zimmermann (6-2, 3.28 ERA) faces Bowie RHP Brad Bergesen (15-5, 3.11 ERA), the 2008 Eastern League Pitcher of the Year.
