McFarland Shuts Down Erie

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves couldn't afford to go down early to Akron with T.J. McFarland taking the hill for the Aeros. Unfortunately for Erie, the trouble started with the first three hitters of the game in their 8-1 loss.
Zack Segovia did not have his best stuff tonight and Tim Fedroff, Juan Diaz and Jared Goedert opened the scoring in the first with back-to-back-to-back homers, setting the tone for the game. Segovia would give up another three runs in the third.
A Thomas Neal sacrifice fly scored Goedert from third, who had doubled to start the inning. After walking Ryan Rohlinger, Segovia gave up another double, this time to Kyle Bellows. The hit scored Rohlinger and Chun Chen who had singled earlier.
Segovia would only last three innings total, giving up seven hits, six runs, walking two while striking out three. Four other SeaWolves would finish up the game, but Jared Goedert was not done with what would be a night to remember.
Mark Sorensen had two outs before walking Juan Diaz and bringing Goedert to the plate. Goedert smashed a Sorensen offering well over the Erie Insurance Arena in left field for his second homer of the night. Austin Wood, Zach Samuels, and Ryan Robowski blanked the Aeros in their respective appearances.
All the while, T.J. McFarland lived up to his "ace" status and blanked one of the most potent offenses in the Eastern League. He allowed only 3 singles in his outing, striking out six SeaWolves dropping his season ERA to a mere 1.86.
In the ninth, the Howlers began to rally when Ben Guez hit his second homerun of the year off newly recalled Mason Radeke but that was all the offense the SeaWolves could muster. Erie and Akron will meet in the rubber match of the series tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:05am.
Notes: The loss snaps Akron's four game losing streak and Erie's season high six game winning streak.Tony Plagman is now hitless in three straight games.Niuman Romero's six game hitting streak was snapped, he is second in the EL with 48 hits on the year.
