Trenton Thunder News Release

(Binghamton, NY) - The Trenton Thunder scored eight runs on nine hits in a memorable eighth-inning en route to a 10-1 victory over the Binghamton Mets Monday night at NYSEG Stadium. Shaeffer Hall pitched 6.2 shutout innings and Trenton matched a season-high with 16 hits as the Thunder (19-16) improved to a season-best three games above .500.

After the Thunder led 2-0 after seven innings, twelve batters came to the plate in the eighth against pitchers Mark Cohoon (2-4) and Erik Turgeon. The first six batters recorded hits, including two-run home runs from Corban Joseph and Luke Murton that made the score 6-0.

Jose Gil later roped an RBI double to make the score 7-0, and Yadil Mujica pulled a two-run double to right to extend the rally. Joseph, batting for the second time in the inning, lined an RBI single to left to cap the eight-run rally and leave Trenton in front 10-0.

Hall (3-4) was dominant on the mound, allowing only five hits and no walks while striking out four. He was staked to a 2-0 lead on Abraham Almonte's RBI groundout in the third and Gil's sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Joseph and Kevin Mahoney each had three-hit games to pace Trenton's 16-hit attack, while Melky Mesa, Gil and Mujica each had a pair.

Trenton will go for a season-high-matching fourth straight win Wednesday night in game two of the series, with first pitch slated for 6:35 pm at NYSEG Stadium. Trenton right-hander Brett Marshall (4-1) is expected to start against Mets' righty Collin McHugh (4-2). The game can be heard on the radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online beginning at 6:20 pm.
