Erie, PA - Tuesday night was Jared Goedert Night at Erie's Jerry Uht Park.

The Aeros leading hitter enjoyed his best night of the season, going 4-4, with two homers, a double and three RBI's, as the Aeros defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 8-1.

The win snapped Akron's four game losing streak, and also wrecked Erie's six-game winning streak. The Aeros (23-13) remain in first place in the EL Western Division, 2 =C21/2 games ahead of Harrisburg, who won at Richmond, 4-2. Erie (19-18) dropped to 4 =C21/2 out.

Someone in the Aeros dugout flipped the power switch to "on" prior to Tuesday's first pitch. Facing righthander Zack Segovia, the first three Aeros hitters homered for a quick, 3-0 lead. Tim Fedroff led off with his first homer of the year, a deep drive to right field. Shortstop Juan Diaz followed with a dinger to the same spot, his third of the season. Goedert, who entered the game as the second-leading hitter in the EL, completed the trifecta with a rocket to left, his fourth of the year.

Segovia (4-3) settled and retired the next three to escape the first. However, trouble boiled over again in the third when Goedert led off with a double to left. He moved to third on a Chun Chen single, and scored on Thomas Neal's sacrifice fly to right. After a walk, Kyle Bellows laced a double down the left-field line, driving in two runs for a 6-0 Akron lead.

All the run-support was more than sufficient for Akron starter T.J. McFarland, who worked seven shutout innings for his league-best seventh win of the season. McFarland (7-1) gave up only three harmless singles, and worked with a runner on second base only once. He did not issue a walk and struck out six, validating his selection earlier in the day as the Tribe's Minor League Player of the Week.

Goedert was hardly finished. In the fourth, he belted a gapper to left-center, but over-slid the bag at second and was tagged out. He was, by rule, credited with only a single. Then in the sixth, against Erie reliever Mark Sorenson, he launched a moon shot onto the top of the Erie Civic Arena, which sits adjacent to Jerry Uht Park and serves as the park's left field wall. It was a two-run homer, his second of the game and fifth of the year.

Goedert has hit three homers in the last three games. He also homered in last Sunday's game at Canal Park. His 4-4 effort Tuesday raised his average 21 points to .383. Leading 8-0, Akron manager Chris Tremie graciously removed Goedert in the seventh, and replaced him with newly promoted outfielder Jordan Casas.

The Aeros matched a season-high with their eight runs. The four homers are the high-water mark for a single game this season.

The Aeros and SeaWolves will conclude the series with the rubber match on Wednesday morning at 11:05 AM. RHP Brett Brach (0-1, 12.27) will start for the Aeros against LHP Jared Wesson (3-2, 6.68) for Erie. After the series wrap-up, the Aeros will return to Canal Park for the next homestand on Friday, May 18th against Richmond. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
