Thunder Bats Overpower B-Mets in 10-1 Loss

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Trenton Thunder offense erupted for 16 hits, including nine in their eight-run eighth inning, to defeat the Binghamton Mets 10-1 Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Trenton starter Shaeffer Hall baffled Binghamton over 6.2 shutout innings to earn his third win.

B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon had thrown seven strong innings before things unraveled in the eighth. With the B-Mets trailing by two, the lefty started the frame, but failed to record an out. The first five Thunder reached safely, highlighted by two-run home runs from Corban Joseph and Luke Murton.

Erik Turgeon entered in relief, but struggled to put out the flames. The righty allowed four more hits and watched as the Thunder tacked on four additional runs. In all, Trenton sent twelve men to the plate and set season-highs with nine hits and eight runs in the inning.

The B-Mets managed just five hits against Hall. The southpaw threw a first-pitch strike to the first 22 batters he faced and cruised through six innings before allowing a pair of singles in the seventh. With the Thunder leading by just two at the time, manager Tony Franklin called upon Kelvin Perez to get the final out of the frame. The righty struck out Sean Kazmar to end Binghamton's final threat of the game.

The Thunder scored their first two runs off of leadoff doubles. Jose Gil started the third with a two-bagger and scored on two straight groundouts. Kevin Mahoney kicked off the fifth with a double and scored later on a sac fly by Gil.

Binghamton plated their only run in the eighth against Perez. Matt den Dekker extended his hitting streak to ten games with a double to left and scored on Juan Lagares' double to right.

Michael Dubee closed out the game with a scoreless ninth. Cohoon (2-4) suffered the loss, while Hall (3-4) snapped his three-game losing streak.

The B-Mets (17-19) continue their series against the Trenton Thunder tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. RHP Collin McHugh takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Brett Marshall. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
