Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, Idaho - Led by D'Arcy McConvey's four points, the Steelheads netted four, first period goals, and held on, as they beat the Stockton Thunder, 6-4, in front of 4,087 fans at Qwest Arena on Tuesday night.

In all, four skaters contributed multiple points, as the Steelheads (34-20-7) improved to 3-0-0 against the Thunder (13-35-11) this season. Their four tallies in the opening period was the ninth time this season the Steelheads have scored four times in a stanza, and the second time in a row versus the Thunder.

McConvey opened the scoring at 5:47 on a delayed penalty call against the visitors. The captain's 27th of the season was a fluky goal, as McConvey threw the puck towards the slot and it redirected off a Thunder player and past a surprised netminder in the form of Jake Moreland (15 saves).

Leading 1-0, the Steelheads rattled off three goals in less than five minutes, starting with David Bararuk's 21st of the season at 14:33. Dan Hacker then tallied at 17:24 and McConvey's second of the opening period came with just 36 second left in the frame. Defenseman Blake Forsyth registered two assists in the period, and rookie Mike Adamek picked up his first professional point, drawing a helper on Bararuk's marker. In addition to their goals, both McConvey and Hacker added assists as well.

The Steelheads out-shot the Thunder 19-9 in the first period, and at the start of the second period, Jeff Weber (11 saves) replaced Jake Moreland between the pipes for the visitors.

Both teams traded goals in the second period. The Thunder cut the deficit to 4-1 early in the second period with their 15th man advantage goal in the last 11 games. Forward Nathan Martz smacked home a loose puck from the side of the Steelheads' net at 3:25 to get the visitors on the board. Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (28 saves) stopped Joel Irwin's initial shot, but John Longo poked the puck free and Martz took full advantage.

Matt Reid's fifth goal of the season and his third on home ice put the Steelheads in front 5-1 with only 53 seconds left in the second period. Rookie Kurt MacSweyn and Reid worked a give-and-go, with Reid sliding the puck under Weber from the crease. Reid's goal turned out to be the game-winner, the first in his professional career.

The Thunder rallied furiously in the third period, scoring three times in the second half of the stanza to cut the Steelheads lead to 5-4. Mike Lalonde tallied twice in a two-minute span and former Steelhead Kevin Gardner tipped home a loose puck from the slot with 1:44 remaining in the game. Martz assisted on both goals by Lalonde.

With 44 seconds left, Marty Flichel iced the game with an empty-net goal, his 23rd of the season. McConvey completed his four point evening with an assist, while Hacker also drew a helper, giving him his second three-point game of his pro career.

The final shots were even at 32 apiece. Steve Silverthorn picked up the win, improving to 18-13-3. Weber, who allowed just one goal, was saddled with the loss, his 20th.

The series with Stockton continues on Wednesday, March 15. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1350 AM, "The Ticket," beginning approximately 20 minutes before the drop of the puck. For tickets, call 208-331-TIXS.
