Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - Dan Tudin and Derek Edwardson each tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 4-2 victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 3,100 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Tuesday.
The RoadRunners (19-38-3) started the game on a good note. Dusty Demianiuk collected his first goal of the season when he beat a screened Las Vegas goaltender Marc Magliarditi with a wrist shot from the right point just 3:24 into the first period for a 1-0 lead. The Wranglers (45-10-6) would net the equalizer at 8:35 as Tudin re-directed Tyler Sloan's shot from the blue line by RoadRunners goaltender Ryan Cyr to tie the game at 1-1. Steve Marr gave Las Vegas their first lead of the night at the 18:00 minute mark, beating a screened Cyr with a shot from the left point for a 2-1 advantage to close out the first period.
Las Vegas would break the game open with two quick goals in the opening five minutes of the third period. Off a bad bounce behind the Phoenix net, Edwardson collected the loose puck in front and slipped a backhander past Cyr at 3:03 to give the Wranglers a 3-1 lead. Matt Dzieduszycki extended the lead to 4-1 with his 32nd goal of the season at 4:53. Dzieduszycki collected Tudin's rebound at the weak side of the net and jammed the puck home for the tally. Brad Woods brought the RoadRunners back to within two goals when he ripped a slap shot over Magliarditi's glove from the right-wing circle at 6:24. Unfortunately, Phoenix would get no closer.
Las Vegas out-shot Phoenix 45-20. Cyr stopped 41 shots but fell to 0-9-0 on the season. The RoadRunners went 0-4 on the power play and held the Wranglers scoreless on three chances with the man-advantage.
Notes: Demianiuk became the last of the original RoadRunners' rookies to collect his first professional goal...The first period goal by Phoenix was their first in the last 11 games dating back to February 21 against Utah...The RoadRunners set a season-low with three penalties.
Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11PM on Thursday as they conclude a two-game series with the Las Vegas Wranglers. It's the final installment of the RoadRunners season-long "Past Greats Night" series as Phoenix honors former player, coach, and general manager Adam Keller. The first 2,000 fans will receive a voucher good for a commemorative Adam Keller pint glass upon exiting the arena. The RoadRunners will also host another "Thirsty Thursday" presented by Alice Cooper'stown. Head to Cooper'stown located behind US Airways Center after the RoadRunners lasso the Wranglers and enjoy pints of Bud and Bud Light for just $3, the "Best Damn Margarita" for only $4 and other great drink specials throughout the night.
