Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Johnstown, PA (March 14, 2006) - Johnstown Chiefs netminder Morgan Cey has been named the ECHL Reebok Hockey Goaltender of the Week.
Cey, 24, stopped 88 of 89 shots last weekend en route to a 2-0-0 record, a 0.45 goals against average, a .989 save percentage, one shutout, and helped the Chiefs clinch a playoff berth.
Cey stopped 27 of 28 on Friday in a 2-1 win over Trenton. He earned his third shutout of the season when he stopped 50 shots on Sunday in a 1-0 win over North division leading Reading. The 50-save shutout is a Johnstown Chiefs record. Cey currently has a scoreless string of 132:26, which began early in the first period, Friday.
Cey also stopped all eleven Wheeling Nailer shots he faced on Saturday, when he replaced Mike Betz to begin the second period. Cey was pulled 13 minutes later, after suffering a lower body injury. Because of the injury, Cey was a game time decision to start on Sunday.
The 6'3, 175 pound goaltender from Wilkie, Saskatchewan, improved to 17-8-5 this season. Cey is tied for third in the league with three shutouts, sixth in the league with a .922 save percentage, and is 11th in the ECHL with a 2.74 goals against average.
For the month of March, Cey, a rookie from Notre Dame, is 3-1-1, with a .964 save percentage, a 1.42 goals against average, and one shutout.
The Johnstown Chiefs 2005-06 season presented by The First National Bank of Pennsylvania resumes on Friday, when the Chiefs play in Reading. Saturday, the Chiefs host the Toledo Storm on Fox 8 Puck Giveaway night. The first 2000 fans in attendance will receive a souvenir puck from Fox 8 TV. Face-off is 7pm. Sunday is Heluva Good Quality Food Kids Day, as the Chiefs host the Wheeling Nailers at 3pm. All child tickets are free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
