Johnstown's Cey Named Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Morgan Cey of the Johnstown Chiefs is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 6-12.

The 24-year-old was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.45 and a save percentage of .989 to help the Chiefs go 2-0-1 and clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2003-04 and the 11th time in their 18-year history.

The 6-foot-3 and 185-pound rookie opened the week stopping 27 of 28 shots in the Chiefs' 2-1 win over Trenton on Mar. 10. He made 11 saves in the second period, but did not figure into the decision of the 6-5 overtime loss after Mike Betz returned to the game. He closed out the week making 50 saves to register his third professional shutout in a 1-0 win against North Division leader Reading.

Under contract to the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League, Cey is 17-8-5 and is tied for sixth in the league with a .922 save percentage and is 11th with a goals-against of 2.74. He is 5-1-0 with two shutouts and a goals-against average of 1.50 while making 205 saves for a save percentage of .958 in his last six starts. In his last 13 appearances, he is 8-3-1 and has a 2.05 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage.

A native of Wilke, Saskatchewan, Cey spent four years at the University of Notre Dame where he had a career record of 38-43-15 with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 112 appearances and led the Fighting Irish to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004.
