Everblades add two to roster

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has signed defensemen Greg Poupard and Steve Kovalchik to contracts. Both players join the Everblades after completing the collegiate season with Wayne State University.

Kovalchik, 23, joins the Everblades after tallying 21 points (2g, 19a) in 35 games during his senior season at Wayne State. The point total matched his career high with the Warriors, having also scored 21 points during the 2004-05 campaign when he notched a career high six goals. The Riverview, Michigan native compiled 67 total points (10g, 57a) and 80 penalty minutes in 141 career games during his four-year career at Wayne State. Prior to skating at the collegiate level Kovalchik played one season (2001-02) at the junior level with Omaha of the United States Hockey League, where he collected 18 points (6g, 12a).

Poupard, 23, completed his senior season as co-captain of the Warriors squad, and notched seven points (1g, 6a) in 33 games. The native of Jackson, Michigan scored seven points in each of his last three seasons at Wayne State, and overall during his four-year stint with the Warriors tallied 24 points (6g, 18a) and 166 penalty minutes in 133 career games. Prior to attending Wayne State, Poupard spent two seasons (2000-02) at the junior level with Waterloo of the USHL, where he notched 17 points (8g, 9a) in 94 games.

In a separate move, the Everblades placed forward Ernie Hartlieb on the 30-day injured reserve list. The 26 year-old suffered an injury during Florida's 7-2 win over Columbia on March 10. The 2006 ECHL All-Star had picked up points in 13 of his last 18 games played, and overall was second on the team in scoring with 54 points (18g, 36a) at the time of his injury. In his two seasons with the Everblades the native of Warren, Michigan has notched 21 goals and 45 assists in 70 games. During his six-year professional career, Hartlieb has tallied 216 points (73g, 143a) in 326 games.

The Everblades return to action on tonight when they host the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive an Everblades poster when they enter the arena courtesy of the YMCA.
