
Marks reaches coaching milestone

GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers have announced that HEAD COACH JOHN MARKS will reach a professional coaching milestone when the Grrrowl take the ice in Florence, SC against the Pee Dee Pride on Sunday, December 26, 2004. Marks will coach his 1,400th game as a professional head coach, which solidifies his spot as the leading active head coach (in terms of games coached) in all of professional hockey.
Now, in his 18th season as a head coach, Marks' overall record is currently 697-578-124. Coach Marks has two ECHL Championships (1994-95 with Charlotte; 2001-02 with Greenville) and has competed in the playoffs on 11 occasions during his first 17 years. Second behind Marks is Bryan Murray of the NHL Ottawa Senators (currently on lockout). Leading the all-time list is Scotty Bowman with 2,571 games. With three wins, Marks will also hit the 700-win plateau.
A special recognition of his accomplishments will be presented in Greenville on December 28th when the Grrrowl host the Augusta Lynx at the BI-LO Center (7:05pm start).
