Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Ryan Bast scored at the 3:04 mark of overtime to give the Alaska Aces a thrilling 3-2 victory over Mississippi, ending the Sea Wolves season-high four-game win streak in front of 3,874 at Sullivan Arena.

The Sea Wolves gained a point in the overtime loss and finish their six-game road trip to Alaska and Victoria with a 4-1-1 record.

"It was a great trip," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "I'm happy with the results that we accomplished. We're all looking forward to getting back home and play in front of the Sea Wolves fans again on Wednesday against Charlotte."

Mississippi (11-10-3, 25 points) goaltender Matt Underhill turned away nine shots in the first period to extend his shutout streak against the Aces to four periods after a scoreless opening stanza.

In the second, Sea Wolves' Chris Cava unleashed a beautiful shot on the power-play from the left circle tucking the puck just underneath the crossbar to beat goaltender Peter Aubry. Cava's goal was his second in as many games and second of the season. Assists went to Louis Dumont and Jeff Hutchins, who counts his 50th career helper in professional hockey.

Alaska (13-11-2, 28 points) finally solved Underhill on the power-play at 15:39. On the Aces' 16th shot of the game, Charles Linglet deposited a loose puck in front for his eighth of the campaign to tie the contest through 40 minutes of action. Cal Benazic and Mike Scott garnered helpers.

Aces took their first lead of the three-game series at 8:00 of the third. Veteran B.J. Young lifted a backhand shot into the back of the net for his fourth of the season assisted by Linglet and Ryan Bast.

Cava went back to work and cashed in his second power-play goal of the game and third tally in the last two contests at the 9:14 mark. Hutchins picked up his second assist of the night, which was his 100th professional point, while Jay Legault also assisted to extend his point streak to seven games.

In overtime, Bast took a pass from locked-out NHL'er Scott Gomez and ended the game in Alaska's favor. With the win, the Aces halted their three-game winless skid. Ryan Moren also picked up an assist on the game-winner.

Mississippi converted on 2-of-6 power play opportunities, while Alaska was successful on 1-of-5. Aces outshot the Sea Wolves 31-21.

The Sea Wolves return home for a 7:05 p.m. game on Wednesday against the Charlotte Checkers at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Santa Claus will be in attendance. It's also Discounted Daiquiri Night, with $2 each daiquiri. Following the game, there is a postgame player appearance for fans 21 years of age and older at Treasure Bay Casino.
