Iowa Cubs News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - The Iowa Cubs (57-69) clubbed three home runs, but it wasn't enough as the Columbus Clippers (73-51) took game three by a score of 7-5, Thursday at Huntington Park.
Columbus did the majority of their damage early on, scoring six runs through the first two frames. They got four runs in the second on two RBI doubles and two RBI singles.
The I-Cubs cut their deficit in half on a two-run shot from Michael Hermosillo in the top of the third, but the Clippers got the runs right back on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to bring their lead back to four, at 6-2.
It stayed a 6-2 game until the eighth, when Iowa got another two-run home run, this time from Matt Mervis, once again cutting their deficit to two runs. As they did in the third, Columbus came right back with a run of their own on a solo home run by Will Brennan.
Down 7-4, Jared Young clubbed a solo shot of his own to make it a 7-5 game, but Nick Mikolajchak entered the game and recorded the final three outs to earn his fifth save and a second straight win for the Clippers.
POSTGAME NOTES:
