WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (65-61) opened September with a 4-3 victory against the Buffalo Bisons (65-60) on Thursday night at Polar Park.

Triston Casas broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, lacing a solo home run to left-center, his 11th of the season. The ball travelled 423 feet, giving Casas his 14th extra-base-hit since the start of August and extending on-base streak to 14 games.

Starter Victor Santos exited in line for the win, posting his second straight strong outing for the WooSox: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 4 K. After taking the loss in his first three Triple-A starts, the right-hander has now tossed 11 consecutive scoreless innings with 16 strikeouts in that span.

Brian Keller entered in the sixth out of the bullpen and allowed the first three batters he faced to reach. Rafael Lantigua drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at one, but Keller responded with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout to preserve the scoreline.

He was rewarded half an inning later, as Worcester put runners on the corners with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Enmanuel Valdez hit a ground ball to the right side-second baseman Otto Lopez tagged the runner going from first to second, but could not turn two, allowing Nick Sogard to sprint home with the go-ahead run.

One batter later, Pedro Castellanos delivered the biggest blow of the game, a two-run home run to the berm in left, his fifth at Triple-A. Castellanos, who slashed .292/.324/.446 with two homers in August, clubbed it 398 feet to make it 4-1.

Buffalo rallied for two quick runs in the top of the eighth off Keller, an RBI single by Cullen Large and a run-scoring double play off the bat of Zack Collins. The latter of those two was a sterling defensive effort by Valdez at second, a diving backhand stop to start Worcester's third 4-6-3 double play of the night.

Pitching for the second straight night, Frank German tossed a scoreless ninth for his sixth Triple-A save of the season. The right-hander has put up runless outings in 14 of his last 17 appearances.

The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park on Friday at 6:45 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, affiliate of Toronto Blue Jays. On the mound, Chris Murphy (3-3, 5.06) faces Thomas Hatch (7-7, 4.86). Radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
