WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Goldeyes will welcome Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer to Shaw Park Friday night as part of their contest with the visiting Sioux Falls Pheasants.

Reimer, 23, quickly rose to stardom in Toronto last winter when he grabbed the starting job in the crease for the Maple Leafs midway through the season. By the end of the season, he had posted a 20-10-5 record and stellar 2.60 ERA in 37 games.

"James' story is one of hard work and perseverance," Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier said. "In three seasons he worked his way up from the ECHL to playing on Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday night. The Goldeyes organization wants to recognize his accomplishments on Friday."

As part of his visit to Shaw Park, Reimer will throw out the opening pitch before the game and sign autographs for fans during the first inning of the game.

A product of Morweena, Manitoba, Reimer played his minor hockey in the Interlake region of Manitoba and suited up in the Interlake Lightning Midget AAA program before having a three-year career in the Western Hockey League with the Red Deer Rebels. He was drafted by Toronto in the 4th Round (99th Overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He helped the South Carolina Stingrays win an ECHL title in 2009.

After an eight-game road trip, Winnipeg returns to Shaw Park Thursday night for the first of four games against the Sioux Falls Pheasants. The Goldeyes are in first place in the American Association's North Division.

Great seats for all Goldeyes games are available by visiting at Ticketmaster outlet, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE.
