Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes are doing their best to erase any doubt as to who is the top team in the American Association's North Division.

The Goldeyes (36-21) put up three crooked numbers in a 10-4 thrashing of the St. Paul Saints (33-24) Wednesday afternoon before 6,018 fans at Midway Stadium in St. Paul.

After trailing the Saints by a game for first in the North Division heading into the series, the Goldeyes swept the four-game set over St. Paul and now have a three-game lead atop the division. It's the first time in franchise history the Goldeyes have swept the Saints in a four-game series in St. Paul.

Winnipeg finishes the eight-game road trip with a near-perfect 7-1 record, which included three wins against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks last weekend.

After St. Paul struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, Winnipeg tied the game with a single run of its own in the second inning and then blew the doors open with four runs in the fourth inning. Jon Weber led the offensive outburst with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Winnipeg added two more runs in the fifth inning on a Brian Myrow two-run double to make it 7-1 and took a 10-4 lead in the eighth thanks to a solo home run from Louis Ott and a two-RBI double from Kody Kaiser.

Myrow and Weber each had three RBI to lead the Goldeyes.

Goldeyes starting pitcher Issac Hess tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, to get his third win of the season. Matt Long takes the loss for St. Paul.

The Goldeyes are back at Shaw Park Thursday night to begin an eight-game home stand and four-game series against the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Game time is 7 p.m.
