St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - In 19 years of Saints baseball, the St. Paul Saints had never been swept in a four game series at home....until Wednesday as the Saints fell to the Winnipeg Goldeyes by a final mark of 10-4 in front of 6,018 fans at Midway Stadium losing all four games in a three day span.

The Saints held leads in all four games, but could not hang on to win any of them, as they tied their long longest losing streak for the 2011 season. It was also the first time they had been swept in a four game series since June 26-29, 2008 at Sioux Falls.

With the score knotted up at one in the fourth inning, Saints starter Matt Long ran into trouble. After Kody Kaiser reached on an error by Adam Frost, Price Kendall followed with a single. Brian Myrow then smacked a single of his own to give the Goldeyes the 2-1 lead. Winnipeg would begin to open up their lead just one batter later, as leftfielder Jon Weber skied one over the fence in left-center field to make it 5-1. Long yielded two more runs in the fifth inning, as he would go 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits, walking three, and striking out six.

Starter Isaac Hess was effective for Winnipeg, recording 5.2 innings yielding just two runs on eight hits and walking one.

The Goldeyes added to their lead with a solo homer in the seventh by Louis Ott, making it 8-4. Brian Joynt tripled and after Ridge Carpenter was hit by a pitch for the third time, Kody Kaiser doubled them both home, capping the scoring at 10-4.

The Saints got an RBI single by Jason Cooper in the first to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Brent Krause got his first hit of the season, a solo blast in the 5th to make it 7-2 Winnipeg. Cooper added two more RBI with a single in the seventh which cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Saints now travel to Sioux City to take on the Explorers in a four game set, starting up on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Saints will go with LHP Donald Brandt (5-2, 3.84) to start the series. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
