X's Offense Explodes In 11-3 Victory

Gary, IN-----The Explorers evened the series with Gary-Southshore Tuesday with an 11-3 win over the RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard.

The victory over Gary moved the Explorers to within 3 1/2 games of the first place RailCats in the Central Division of the American Association. It was the first win of the season at Gary for the Explorers this season in six games. The Explorers scored ten of their 11 runs in the middle three innings after Gary had taken a 2-0 lead after two.

In the win, the Explorers had 17 hits, the ninth straight games that Sioux City has had ten or more hits in a contest. Dustin Jones, Derek Schermerhorn and Kent Sakamoto all had three hits each with Sakamoto having two triples in the game. Besides the hitting, pitcher Jason Jarvis making his third start for the Explorers pitched eight strong innings in picking up his first win in a Sioux City uniform. Jarvis scattered eight hits and allowed just two earned runs while striking out five and walking three to record his first win.

The Explorers will close out the three-game series with Gary-Southshore Wednesday night with game time 7:10. On Thursday, the Explorers will begin a four-game series with St. Paul at Lewis and Clark Park.
