Larocque Returns, McNamara Called Up
December 11, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV â The Wheeling Nailers announce that defenseman Mario Larocque has been assigned to Wheeling form the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. In a separate transaction, forward Chris McNamara has been called up by the Lowell Loch Monsters.
Larocque was called up by the Penguins on December 2 and appeared in three games. It was the first time Larocque played in the AHL since the 2001-2002 season when he played 75 games for the Rochester Americans. In his first assignment with the Penguins he did not register a point and had four penalty minutes. Larocque has played 16 games for the Nailers this season and has four points, all assists, and 61 penalty minutes.
McNamara, in his second year of professional hockey, has been called up by the Lowell Loch Monsters for the second year in a row. This is his first assignment to the AHL this season. McNamara, a free agent, was selected by Lowell despite the fact that they have several players on AHL contracts with their ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades. In 21 games with the Nailers this year, McNamara is third on the team in scoring with 18 points on six goals and 12 assists. McNamara is also tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with three.
Last season McNamara appeared in 47 games for the Nailers and had 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points and 42 penalty minutes. He also played 28 games for Lowell in the AHL. With Lowell, McNamara scored two goals and six assists for eight points and had 54 penalty minutes.
The Nailers enter this weekend in second place in the Northern Division, one point behind the Johnstown Chiefs. The Nailers host the Toledo Storm Friday at 7:30p.m. at WesBanco Arena. The first 1,000 fans age 14 and younger will receive a Penguins Youth Back Pack. On Saturday the Nailers travel to Dayton and close their weekend Sunday at home against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies at 6:00p.m. The Nailers will debut their Holiday Jersey on Sunday against the defending Kelly Cup Champions.
