Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Ice Dogs announced today the team has acquired left wing Marty Johnston and defenseman Chris Barr from the Trenton Titans in exchange for defenseman Jay Leach. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Marty Johnston has played in 19 games so far this year for Trenton, registering 3-9-12 and 15 penalty minutes. Last season he played 55 games with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL registering 22-41-63 and 52 penalty minutes. He also played 17 games last season for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL. The added boost on offense will be welcomed by the Ice Dogs, who currently rank last in the league in total offense with only 44 goals after 20 games.

Chris Barr began the season with the Florence Pride of the ECHL, playing in 10 games and registering no points and 15 penalty minutes. He was acquired by the Trenton Titans where he played nine games, registering 1-1-2 and eight penalty minutes. A solid, stay-at-home defenseman, Barr will provide stability on the blue line.

Leach, who only played in three games with the Ice Dogs before being recalled to Providence of the AHL, registered one assist and four penalty minutes during his brief stint. The Ice Dogs play at Fresno tomorrow night at 7pm. The Falcons are winless in their last nine games and the Ice Dogs will be looking to snap their own five game winless streak when the teams square off for the third time this season.
