Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â The Fresno Falcons tied a team record by suffering their ninth winless game in a row on Wednesday when they lost, 4-1, to the Charlotte Checkers at Save Mart Center. The club is now 7-14-2 on the year and remains in sixth place in the Pacific Division.
For the eighth time during the nine-game slide, Fresno's opponent scored first. Blaz Emersic followed up his own rebound at 14:27 to give the Checkers a 1-0 lead through the first 20 minutes.
Charlotte added to the lead 6:33 into the second when Dave Inman beat Fresno goaltender Terry Friesen from right on the doorstep just as a Falcons penalty had expired, and the Checkers carried a 2-0 lead into the third.
The Falcons quickly fell behind 3-0 just 34 seconds into the final frame after Benoit Dusablon fired a one-timer past Friesen. Fresno did not lay down, though, as Kevin Truelson notched the team's only goal of the evening from Greg Bullock and Boris Protsenko 31 seconds later, cutting Charlotte's lead to 3-1. The game became academic when the Falcons failed to convert on a five-minute power play mid-way through the third before Dusablon tallied his second of the game into an empty net with seven seconds remaining.
Fresno's last victory was on Nov. 21 when they defeated the Long Beach Ice Dogs, 2-1.
The club now faces the Ice Dogs on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. as they continue a five-game homestand. The game features the team's Fourth Annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring brand new stuffed animals to the game and toss them onto the ice when the Falcons score their first goal. The stuffed animals will be donated to children at Community Medical Center and Fresno Child Abuse Prevention.
Tickets beginning as low as $8 are still available and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Rite Aid, Tower Records, and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
