Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO—In a flurry of roster moves on Thursday, the Greensboro Generals Ryan Bonni was recalled to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono also announced that defensemen Kevin Grimes was placed on the 7-day injured reserve. With the two openings on the roster, Greensboro reached an agreement with defenseman Dave LoPresti and right-winger Dean Shmyr.

Bonni (pronounced BON-ee), (6-4; 200 lbs.) is a proven defenseman for Greensboro, and will join a first-place Grand Rapids (15-7-4) team that is atop the AHL's Western Conference's West Division. Bonni appeared in 15 games for the Generals, where he netted one goal, six assists, all for seven points. A defensive stopper, Ryan has registered 49 penalty minutes.

The departure of Bonni was not hit that the defensive unit took. Kevin Grimes also was placed on the 7-day injured reserve. "Grimer", as he is known to his fans and teammates, has appeared in all 21 games for the Generals, registering one goal and one assist, with a team-high 82 minutes of penalties.

Opening up two slots on the roster, allowed Adduono to make two additions to his lineup. The first came in the form of Dave LoPresti, a native of Boston, Mass., who was most recently playing with the Winston-Salem SEHL franchise. The 6-2, 200 lbs., defensemen played his college hockey at Boston University, where he appeared in 12 games recording an assist. Since the 2001-02 season, LoPresti has played for the ACHL Orlando Seals, and spent the first eight games of the season with Winston-Salem.

Dean Shmyr will also return to the ice, after spending time as the Director of Player Development under Adduono for the past two seasons. It will mark the first time since the 1999-2000 season that Shmyr will take to the ice for the Generals, where he played in 50 games, scoring two goals, five assists, and racking up 298 minutes in the box. His most recent playing stop was Knoxville of the United Hockey League, where Shmyr played in 21 contests.

The Generals return to the ice on Friday, December 12th, when they face the Trenton Titans, with a 7:30 p.m. start time. Those fans that bring in a teddy bear to the game will receive $2 off any ticket prior to entering the game. The bears will be donated to children in the pediatrics ward of Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, as well as children in the cancer clinic at Duke Hospital.
