Express and Booster Club Announce Annual Blood Drive Dates

December 11, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Roanoke Express News Release

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Express in conjunction with the Roanoke Valley Hockey Booster Club have announced the dates of their annual blood drive. Beginning this season the blood drive is being held in memory of Kayleigh Duffy, the 15-year-old Bland, VA girl who recently succumbed to aplastic anemia, a rare blood disease.

Over the past few seasons Duffy became friends with several of the Roanoke Express players. She recently passed on Oct. 1. While fighting aplastic anemia, she required over 100 blood and platelet transfusions. Last season Express players were present at the American Red Cross Center in downtown Roanoke to visit with donors and sign autographs.

The following dates and times have been set aside for the Roanoke Express/RVHBC blood drive:

Wednesday, December 17 – 12:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Thursday, December 18 – 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Friday, December 19 – 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Saturday, December 20 – 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The blood drive will be held at the American Red Cross Center in downtown Roanoke.

Members of the Express will be on hand at the American Red Cross on Dec. 17th from 2-4 p.m.

Anyone interested in donating can sign up at Roanoke Express games by visiting the Booster Club table, or by sending an e-mail to: rvhbc@yahoo.com.
