Knights Fall to Mets 11-6 in 10 Innings Saturday
April 20, 2024 - International League (IL)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Third baseman Danny Mendick homered in his fifth consecutive game, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game five of the six-game series to the Syracuse Mets by a score of 11-6 from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Saturday night. The Mets scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to go on for the game-five victory.
Offensively, Mendick continued his torrid home run pace. Mendick, who entered the game with a home run in each of the four games in the series, homered for the fifth consecutive day. His home run, a solo shot in the fifth inning, was his team-leading eighth of the season. Currently, Mendick is second in the International League in that category. He's now batting .322 on the season with the eight home runs and 20 RBI.
Despite the loss, the Knights once again put together a strong offensive showing. The team scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of center fielder Wynton Bernard. It was his first long ball of the season with Charlotte. Designated hitter Oscar Colás also recorded his first triple of the season in the inning.
LHP Jared Shuster made his second start of the season and allowed just one run over four strong innings. RHP Justin Anderson (0-1, 3.86) was saddled with the loss after he gave up four runs (one earned) over 1.1 innings pitched.
The Knights will conclude the six-game home series against the Syracuse Mets (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets) on Sunday from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 1:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. on Sunday.
