Kings Trade LaBarbera To Vancouver

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have acquired a seventh round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for goaltender Jason LaBarbera, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

The Kings now have 14 total selections in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, including two second round selections and four selections in the first three rounds.

LaBarbera, 28, played in 19 games with the Kings this season, and had a record of 5-8-4, a goals-against-average of 2.83 and a save-percentage of .893. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Burnaby, British Columbia, has played in 98 career regular season NHL games with the Kings and the New York Rangers, and has a record of 34-42-8 with four shutouts, a goals-against-average of 3.00 and a save-percentage of .901.

LaBarbera appeared in 62 games with the Monarchs during the 2006-07 season and collected a record of 39-20-1 with seven shutouts, a 2.21 goals-against-average and a .933 save-percentage. His 62 games were the most contests by a Monarchs goaltender in one year and he also set records for wins (39), losses (20) and saves (1,862) in one season. His .933 save-percentage tied for the highest save-percentage in one season.

The Monarchs host the Atlantic Division leading Providence Bruins in their annual New Year's Eve Celebration game at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, December 31 at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Monarchs megaphone, courtesy of TD Banknorth. The first intermission will highlight the annual Baby Race where eight babies will race across a carpet placed at center ice for prizes, courtesy of WZID.
