Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (December 30, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch gave up a season-high four power play goals against the league's top ranked power play in a feisty game and fell to the Binghamton Senators tonight in front of 4,925 fans at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

The tone for the first period was set just three seconds in when Binghamton's Drew Fata and the Crunch's Kevin Harvey decided to try to give their respective teams a spark.

Although scoreless through the first frame, that spark burned more brightly for Syracuse when Adam Pineault took a pass from Aaron Rome and his shot snuck through the pads of Binghamton starter Brain Elliott. The goal came on the power play just 1:55 into the second period.

However, Binghamton extinguished the Crunch's flame when they tied the contest on a power play of their own just two and a half minutes later. Peter Regin positioned himself in front of the net and redirected a Tomas Kudelka pass from the corner past Crunch starter Sebastian Dahm to make it a 1-1 game.

Syracuse took the lead back again with the man-advantage ten and a half minutes into the second when Tom Sestito kept the puck in the Crunch zone and broke in on a 2-on-1 chance with Maksim Mayorov. Sestito slickly slid the puck over to Mayorov, who put it between the pads of Elliott for a 2-1 Crunch lead.

Binghamton came back again to knot the score at 2-2, this time on a shorthanded opportunity. Greg Mauldin went to the net and tapped in Marc Cavosie's rebound on the backhand past Dahm with his outstretched arms at the 17:23 mark of the second stanza.

The Senators added another quick strike on the power play with just 26 seconds to go in the second, as Denis Hamel's blast from the top of the right circle found its way through a screened Dahm to give Binghamton the 3-2 advantage.

Binghamton kept their momentum going to start the third frame when they tallied their third power play goal of the night just over two minutes in to make it 4-2. Tomas Kudelka took a cross-ice pass from Zack Smith and fired a shot from a sharp angle that beat Dan LaCosta, who replaced Dahm to start the period.

Kudelka notched his second goal and Binghamton's fourth man-advantage score of the night with just under three minutes to go in regulation to make it 5-2.

Elliott finished with 23 stops for Binghamton.
