Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that defenseman Jeff May has been signed to a Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 22 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
May, 21, joins Providence from the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, where he registered 10 points (4g, 6a) in 23 games. The first-year blue-liner began this season in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals, where he went scoreless in three contests. May made his professional debut for Norfolk on October 10 against the Hershey Bears before later earning his first pro point with a goal in the ECHL on November 3 at the Phoenix RoadRunners. May's best career game to date came on November 15 versus the Idaho Steelheads when he scored two goals and added two assists and a plus-three rating for top star honors.
Prior to turning pro, May spent parts of the last six seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He tallied a junior-high 44 points in each of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns. His Lethbridge club advanced to the WHL Finals last season, falling to the Spokane Chiefs in four games. In his junior career, May tallied 143 points (19g, 124a) and 338 penalty minutes in 310 games, adding another 17 points (4g, 13a) in 44 playoff contests.
A native of Richmond, British Columbia, May was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings 151st overall in the fifth round of the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
