Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Alexander Sulzer scored the game winning goal with 56 seconds to play in overtime and Mark Dekanich stopped 22 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals a 2-1 victory over the Iowa Chops Tuesday night at the Bradley Center. The win was the ninth consecutive home victory for the Ads and their fifth in a row overall.
The Chops controlled play during much of the first period, outshooting the Admirals 14-4 in the game's opening 20 minutes, thanks in large part to three Admirals penalties and their resulting power-play opportunities. However, it was an even strength goal by Troy Bodie at 17:08 of the first that gave Iowa a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Iowa continued to determine the pace of play for the beginning of the second as the Admirals were held without a shot for the first eight minutes of the period. However, that first shot, a wrister from Jed Ortmeyer, was not covered up by Iowa netminder David LeNeavue and Mike Santorelli crammed it past Lenevue's pad to tie the score at one.
The Admirals had back-to-back power-play chances at the end of the period, but they couldn't convert, and the two squads went into the third period even at one goal apiece.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the third period, but it wasn't for a lack of opportunities, especially for the Chops. Milwaukee committed four penalties in the finals stanza, including a tripping call on Robert Dietrich at 18:09, but strong penalty killing and stellar goaltending by Dekanich helped pull the Ads into overtime.
With less than a minute to go in the extra session, Admirals forward Patric Hornqvist poked the puck from the corner and over to Sulzer. The Milwaukee blueliner skated from the left dot to the bottom of the circle and then fired a wrist shot that beat LeNeavue top shelf and gave Milwaukee their ninth straight home win.
Sulzer, finished the game with a goal and an assist and now has at least a point in five straight games and nine of his last ten. The win for Dekanich was his fifth in his last six starts and he has now surrendered two or fewer goals in eight consecutive games.
