December 30, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals and Susan G. Komen for the Cure will hold "Pink in the Rink" at the Admirals game at Norfolk Scope on January 17th, 2009. The event will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Events leading up to and during the game include a breast cancer informational session, survivor participation during game night, "Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women" and a silent auction for player-autographed Tampa Bay Lightning jerseys. Even the ice will be pink!
Educating women and men about the importance of early breast cancer detection is one of the primary goals of the event. Recent polls have shown that most women are unaware of the causes of or risks for breast cancer. Game attendees will learn about local programs, support groups and how they can decrease their risk.
Special $12 Red Level Tickets will be available for groups of 10 or more people. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Tickets for groups of 10 or more people may be ordered by calling the Admirals at (757) 640-1212 or visiting the Admirals website at norfolkadmirals.com. Sponsorship opportunities are also available through the Admirals' offices by calling (757) 640-1212.
The "Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women" will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. To ensure adequate seating, anyone who is planning on attending the clinic should RSVP in advance by calling (757) 640-1212.
The Norfolk Admirals have been members of the American Hockey League (AHL) since 2000. They are the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning.
