Indianapolis Indians News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A four-run sixth inning highlighted by four extra-base hits - one of which was a leadoff home run from catcher Carter Bins in his Triple-A debut - was not enough as the Indianapolis Indians fell to the Charlotte Knights on Wednesday night, 5-4.

Charlotte (13-19) cut its deficit to one in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out throwing error from Oneil Cruz that allowed Micker Adolfo to score. Indianapolis (15-15) kept its 4-3 lead intact until the bottom of the eighth inning. Charlotte's leadoff batter Jake Burger was beaned, and Blake Rutherford followed with a one-out double. Seby Zavala was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Adolfo, who tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right field. Zach Remillard capped the frame with a go-ahead RBI single, helping the Knights take the second game in the series.

The Knights struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Adolfo.

The Indians were silenced by veteran pitcher Johnny Cueto until the sixth inning. Bins' long ball to the left-field bleachers trimmed Indy's deficit to 2-1 and sparked the four-run burst. Ji-Hwan Bae put himself in scoring position with a one-out double that knocked Cueto out of the game, and Cruz greeted reliever Andrew Perez with an RBI single to level the score. Cal Mitchell and Canaan Smith-Njigba finished the inning with consecutive run-scoring doubles, giving the Indians a 4-2 advantage.

Cody Bolton had his longest outing this season, tossing 3.2 innings. He surrendered two runs on four hits and two walks while fanning three batters. Austin Brice (L, 0-1) faced five batters and recorded two strikeouts, giving up two runs on one hit, one hit batter and a walk.

Cueto pitched 5.1 innings for the Knights, allowing two runs on three hits with six punchouts. Lincoln Henzman (W, 1-1) threw 2.0 scoreless innings yielding just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

The Indians will look to take game three in the series tomorrow night at 7:04 PM ET. RHP Osvaldo Bido (0-1, 3.05) will toe the rubber for the Indians and RHP Davis Martin (1-0, 3.00) will take the mound for the Knights.
