Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â The Long Beach Ice Dogs (14-8-3) extended their season long unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 3-2 shootout victory over the defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads (14-10-1). The win gives the Ice Dogs 31 points in the West Division, moving them into sole possession of second place.
After a scoreless first period, the Steelheads took a 2-0 lead in the second period. The Ice Dogs managed to cut the deficit in half with less than 4 minutes to go in the second, when Nathan Martz put the puck past former Ice Dogs goaltender, Colin Zulianello.
Paul Spadafora tied the score for Long Beach 4:42 into the third, essentially sending the game into overtime. After a scoreless five minute overtime period, the game went into a shootout where the score remained tied after five rounds, 1-1. However, in the sixth round of the shootout Nathan Martz knocked in the game winner to give the Ice Dogs the victory.
Chris Madden had another strong performance, making 37 saves and improving his record on the season to 10-1-0. Colin Zulianello made 30 saves for Idaho. The two teams will play again on Wednesday night in a rematch at 7 PM. For ticket information, call (562) ICE DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
