Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Sean Fields turned aside all 29 Pee Dee Pride shots to record his first shutout of the season and led the Gwinnett Gladiators to a 2-0 victory over the Pride in front of 6,282 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Tuesday night.

Adam Smyth's 4th goal of the season 22 second in to the first period proved to be the game winner and gave the Gladiators an early lead on the Pride. Smyth took a centering pass from Brad Schell and slipped the puck inside the far post past netminder Nick Boucher for the goal. Cam Brown also picked up an assist on the goal digging the puck off the dasher board and shoveling it along to Schell moving through the neutral zone.

Following a scoreless second period, Mike Stathopoulos added an insurance goal for the Gladiators in the third period. Stathopoulos corralled a loose puck in the left wing circle and walked into the slot pulling Boucher out of his net before firing the puck past the out-of-position netminder for the goal. Mike Vigilante added an assist on the goal as he moved the puck along to Stathopoulos to set up the play. Peter Flache also had a helper on the goal at 8:21 of the final period.

The league's top power play was held off the board for the first time in the past three games as Gwinnett went 0-for-3 on the man advantage while out shooting the Pride 43-29.
