Falcons Sunk by Rivermen

Fresno Falcons News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - The Fresno Falcons, playing the first of a five-game in six days trek through the ECHL's North Division, fell to the Peoria Rivermen, 3-1, at Carver Arena.
Peoria jumped all over Fresno throughout the entire first period, peppering netminder Jamie Hodson with 16 shots on goal while the Falcons generated just seven shots at the other end. But Hodson stood his ground and limited the Rivermen to just one goal, which was scored on the power play by Trevor Byrne at 6:15.
Peoria extended its lead 3:56 into the second period when Jake Riddle sped up the right wing and cut in toward the net before beating Hodson for his first professional goal. The Falcons finally began generating some offense after falling behind 2-0 and ended up cutting the Rivermen lead in half with a power play goal at 6:19. Simon Mangos sent a wrist shot toward the net from the half-boards, only to have it go off a Peoria stick and past goaltender Alfie Michaud for his fourth of the season. Fresno controlled play most of the period, out-shooting the Rivermen 15-8, but still trailed 2-1 heading to the third.
The Falcons never really tested Michaud with great scoring chances in the final stanza as they struggled to find the equalizer. Riddle then sealed the victory for Peoria with his second of the evening off a blast from the top of the circles at 17:30, giving his club the 3-1 win.
Fresno drops back to .500 at 12-12-2 on the year and to 2-1-0 on this seven-game road trip.
The Falcons continue the trip tomorrow night with a re-match against the Rivermen. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 4:50 p.m. Pacific time.
The team's next home game is Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. when the Rivermen visit Save Mart Center. Tickets are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
