Defenseman Byrne Loaned from the Worcester IceCats (AHL)

Peoria, Ill. (December 28, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that second-year defenseman Trevor Byrne has been loaned to the team from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate – the Worcester IceCats.

Byrne – a 6-foot-3, 218-pound native of Weymouth, Mass. – notched seven points (1g, 6a) in 25 games with Worcester to open the 2004-2005 season. The 24-year-old competed in six games for the Rivermen last season over two reassignments. Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, he posted 20 points (7g, 13a) in 63 games with 22 penalty minutes (PIM) as a rookie with the IceCats last year.

Byrne competed four years at NCAA Division I Dartmouth College. As a senior, Byrne served as Dartmouth's Captain, graduating as the school's all-time leader in games played (130). He was named to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team and to the All-ECAC Second Team.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – The Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen venture outside of the North Division for the first time this season on Tuesday, December 28 and Wednesday, December 29, hosting the Fresno Falcons in two straight games at Carver Arena.
